Holiday Bazaar Giveaway: Eat Your Feelings, Will Ya?
Monday, November 23, 2009 at 11:00 AM *THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED*
I've got cookbooks up the yin-yang. Many are good, some are okay and a few were gifts that well, have never been opened because the thought of cooking something for a diabetic diet when no one in my family is diabetic seems absurd (to the person who gave me that diabetic cookbook, and you know who you are - what in the world were you thinking?).
Anyway, the cookbooks I have are all fine and good, but there's rarely ever any humor in it. Can you imagine Martha Stewart or Jacques Pepin dropping the F-bomb, being drunk or being called a slut? I didn't think so.
I am happy to say that I have found the perfect cookbook for me and I know you're gonna want to get your sticky little hands on this gem...
There's this girl, ya see, and her name's Heather Whaley. She's hella funny, self-depricating and tells it like it is. And Heather has a great cookbook out called Eat Your Feelings: Recipes for Self-Loathing. The fine people at Penguin sent me a copy of Heather's book and I've been cooking, eating and laughing ever since.
Eat Your Feelings is a cornucopia of recipes that range from appetizers and entrees to desserts and even vegetarian fare.
Some tantalizingly snarky recipes include:
- You Got Drunk and Called Your Friend a Slut in Front of Her Father Cheeseburger Soup (with only 5 ingredients, this is simple for any idiot person to make) - Heather suggests that you order some flowers for your friend and your friend's dad and "pray nobody else heard you: Flowers are expensive." Amen to that.
- Slept with Your Professor and He Still Gave You a D Baked Brie (3 ingredients!) - Before even preheating the oven to 350°, Heather wants to recognize "that your paper on Jacobean tragedy and its parallels with the Reagan administratin was deserving of at least a B. The connect between Jerry Falwell and Ferdinand in John Webster's The Duchess of Malfi was inspired." Wow. This was not covered on the first season of Felicity.
- You Are Going to [Verb] [Person] for [Adverb] [Verb] Your [Noun] Twice Baked Potatoes (seven ingredients, including bacon. Hazaa!) - If you don't know your adjectives from your adverbs and nouns, this one may be too difficult for you.
After all the recipes, there's this section where Heather suggests places to eat your feelings (prom), books to read while eating your feelings (Twilight by Stephanie Meyer - "good for unattractive teens and stay-at-home moms." Sheesh - I can't get the hell away from Twilight these days), some people with whom to eat your feelings (someone who knows all your flaws, Jack and Jil and Santa Claus) and some music to listen to while eating your feelings (Send in the Clowns by Melissa Manchester and NOTHING by James Blunt). They don't teach this stuff in college, ya know.
All this and more self-loathing recipes can be yours. Here's the lowdown on how to win Heather's book (valued at $25.95) - it's easier than taking candy from a baby and you should take candy away from a baby because there's no reason why a baby should have candy in the first place:
YOU MUST:
